About Us

Our responsibility

We believe that we have a responsibility to leave the world better than we found it.  With new technologies enabling improved building performance and lower energy use, we can make this happen, one building at a time.

We encourage diversity of thought in construction and engineering teams and support the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers(CIBSE) through participation in research projects and knowledge sharing initiatives.

GLD is active in the Greater Manchester business community. We are an active member of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce and the Institute of Engineering and Technology.  We have signed up to The Wigan Dealand are committed to supporting other businesses in the borough.

As one of the few female owned businesses in the engineering sector, we strive to help other talented women to join, stay and have exciting careers within the built environment.

Our story

GLD was formed in 2014 by Laura Dunlop. Laura’s ambition was to deliver great work for clients that understand their responsibility to create sustainable places with the end-user in mind.  She also wanted to create a working culture that encouraged collaboration, inclusivity and flexibility.  The office is located near Wigan, in the heart of the north west.  It is close to mainline rail and road connections, but also to the family homes of the team.

“It has always been a priority to me that my team enjoy coming to work.”

Technology and innovation

We are always looking for more efficient ways to design and deliver building services engineering.  We are committed to investing in our people and technologies to ensure we are delivering your projects using the most up-to-date methodologies and tools.

Building Information Modelling (BIM)

We love the collaborative working that BIM enables, allowing for more efficient methods of designing, creating and maintaining all the assets a building needs throughout its life.

BIM is more than a 3D model of a building: it’s a holistic approach to design and construction. It brings together all the product and asset information of a project in a shared knowledge resource that enables effective information management and decision making. Your BIM model is a key asset for designers, investors and occupiers.

GLD is ahead of the crowd in being able to work in a BIM Level 2 environment.  We are working towards BIM Level 3 and seek collaborators with the same approach.

However, not all projects need BIM: we can help you decide what you really need.
