This free school, which took its first pupils in September 2019, is in an old Paul Smith warehouse building in Nottingham city centre.
We were pleased to develop the building services as part of the refurbishment project, focusing on ease of use and energy efficiency.
We used a VRF system to deliver heating to all occupied areas, as well as good ventilation to ensure fresh air.
Old warehouse buildings have very high ceilings and heat loss is a particular challenge so we ensured that the suspended ceilings were well insulated.
The kitchen, changing and shower areas, medical room and science room are all served with hot and cold water.
In every school, robust and efficient building services are key. This school in particular needed to keep its running costs low so that they could focus entirely on looking after young people who find it difficult to succeed in mainstream school.
