Melody Gardens, Salford
Melody Gardens is a large social housing development. It is made up of a block of multi-storey apartments with surrounding mews-type semi detached housing.
We were asked to provide an M&E design for a contractor developer to assist with tendering, as they had found with previous projects there had been cost issues for construction projects where a defined brief for the M&E had not been available.
As part of the initial design works we undertook an option appraisal of the heating system, individual gas fired boilers per apartment or centralized system with heat interface units. This allowed the developer to make a decision to move forward with individual boilers per unit.
We were also asked to provide quantified schedules for the domestic pipework services as an add on to our initial scope. This would further assist the developer with his project costings and overall cost management of the project.
