Chorley New Road Primary School

Client Name: Bolton Council
Completion Date: 2017
Location: Horwich
Main Contractor: William Dixon
M&E Contractor: WM Dyer

A  new build 2-storey primary school designed to replace an outdated facility and provide more provision for children in a growing community.

The new building will allow for twice the number of pupils (420) and will be built next to the original 120-year old building. The greatest challenge was delivering the works on a live school site; to a very strict programme. It was essential that the new building was fully operational by September 2018.

We worked for the M&E sub-contractor and took a part-completed M&E revit model from the original consultants, and then completed the design to suit the latest architect’s drawings.

We produced a 3D Stage 4 technical design, adding in missing health and safety features and co-ordination up to Stage 5.

The new building houses airy classrooms with the latest technology, as well as hall that doubles up as a studio and theatre. The building engineering systems are low energy, and as low-tech as possible in order to minimise the school’s operational and maintenance costs.

Our work was delivered at BIM Level 2.
