Working with existing building systems can often present a unique challenge, with factors such as asbestos or below-ground runs making maintenance near-impossible. Such is the case with the Manor Croft project – where an existing secondary school needed an overhaul of their outdated heating system. Over the years the pipework had gradually deteriorated, and the underfloor heating systems had failed.
As the school quickly needed a new heating solution, we worked to design new pipework layouts and heating solutions for the project. New radiant panels were installed in the classrooms, providing efficient heating throughout the rooms while linking onto the available pre-existing pipe runs, minimising the amount of on-site work required to get the system up and running. A brand-new heating solution was also created for the sports hall area, utilising the same radiant panel technology.
With the aid of outside suppliers, we were able to generate a cost-effective design solution which satisfied out client and should be keeping the classrooms comfortable for the foreseeable future.
